Working with Us

Hello and welcome to the St. Catherine Hospital Website, we are pleased to have you visit. As you page through our site, you will learn about the many services and programs offered by St. Catherine Hospital and the high quality care we offer. You will also learn about the St. Catherine Hospital Care Network and how you may access one of our associated medical providers, who are ready to serve you in a location convenient to your home.

St. Catherine Hospital is a full service community hospital serving the communities of East Chicago, Whiting, Highland, Griffith, Gary, Hammond and Munster as well as greater Lake County, Indiana. Home of the first open heart surgery performed in Northwest Indiana, St. Catherine Hospital has been a leading health care provider since it first opened its doors in 1928. Founded by the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ and leading local businessmen, the hospital is proud to be a member of the Community Healthcare System.

In addition to cardiac surgery, our cardiology program also introduced the area's first cardiac rehabilitation program, cardiac catherization laboratory and cardiac intensive care program. Today, we lead the way again by offering a comprehensive Lipid clinic through our “Families With Heart Disease Program.” St. Catherine Hospital and our expert team of cardiac specialists can diagnose your risk of heart disease even before the first signs or symptoms of heart disease.

In response to identified community needs, the hospital offers a number of specialty care services including the area's first bi-lingual diabetic clinic, certified by the American Diabetic Association. Our Daybreak Center for Addiction provides a clinically effective and confidential setting for the treatment of substance addictions. Our Asthma Clinic helps patients more effectively manage their disease through medical treatment and education.

To ensure our community's access to the latest in medical technology in a comfortable setting, we are constantly upgrading our equipment and facilities. We have expanded and renovated our Outpatient Registration, Laboratory Department, Emergency Services Department, as well as our Physical, Speech and Occupational Therapy Department.

We have opened a new Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) service and recently celebrated the opening of a $1.5 million Rehabilitation Center. The Rehabilitation Center at St. Catherine Hospital is an 18-bed unit which includes 10 private and 4 semi-private rooms as well as a gymnasium, activities of daily living space as well as spacious dining and activities space. This new Center allow residents in our service area to remain in their home community for their rehabilitation needs.

We hope you will enjoy your visit to our home page and welcome you to visit our hospital or a St. Catherine Hospital Care Network site to learn more about how we can help you maintain your good health.
