Welcome to the St. Mary Medical Center website. All of us at St. Mary are committed to meeting the needs of our growing population in Lake and Porter counties. Our goal is to provide compassionate care with the finest technology and services available today.
Recently, we've incorporated advanced concepts of care and safety into a new, six-story patient tower opened in 2004. Comfortable, private patient rooms equipped with the latest in bedside technology are the feature of this $40 million addition. With 190 total beds (including our Acute Rehabilitation Center) and more than 478 physicians on staff, St. Mary Medical Center also embraces diverse methods of patient care. Physicians forge new ground in heart care in the hospital's physiology lab. Mothers are guided through birth with innovative options such as water birthing, support by trained doulas, and a midwife-friendly environment. Our “Joint Academy” takes a unique team approach to joint replacement surgery, offering patients extensive education, coaching and support from the pre-operative through post-operative phases of care and rehabilitation. Recently, St. Mary Medical Center opened its new Imaging Center, a 5,365 square foot addition featuring state-of-the art CT/MRI/Ultrasound imaging services together in one convenient site.
Finally, as part of the Community Healthcare System, St. Mary Medical Center is one of the premier providers of care in Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland. Recently, our hospitals were awarded the “Chanute Prize for Team Innovation” by the Society of Innovators for our “Breast Care: Same Day Results” project. This project allows our professionals to eliminate the “anxious agony” many women experience while waiting for their mammography or biopsy results. Thanks to innovative approaches to care, an investment in new technology and the validation of scientific processes, our hospitals provide these results within hours of the procedures.
