Our People
Beverly Armenta, Support Services Coordinator
Radiology, St. Mary Medical Center
I've been working in the Radiology department at St. Mary Medical Center for 34 years. In 1972, when I graduated from high school, a friend of mine who was a Radiology tech suggested I apply for a job. St. Mary's was in Gary at that time. I started out as a clerk and in 1975 was promoted to department supervisor. I've been fortunate that my director has always been very supportive of me and has fought to keep my job (when St. Mary Medical Center joined St. Catherine and Community Hospitals in 2001 to form Community Healthcare System).
The patients make my day. When I'm working, I always remember that the patients are here because they are sick - I'm not - and the least I can do is make their day.
I love the people at St. Mary's. I really feel as though they are my family. I recently had a procedure done here, and I told my doctors that I'd rather be with my coworkers - my friends - afterward, than home alone.
