I've worked for the hospitals of Community Healthcare System since 1967 – first as a nurses' aide at St. Catherine Hospital, then in dietary at St. Mary Medical Center as a lead. As a Special Function aide now at St. Catherine Hospital, I set up special events/dinners, such as Doctor's Day... luncheons for the Board of Directors.
I took a course in Dietary Management and took advantage of tuition reimbursement. The rest of my training was completed on the job.
You'll find beautiful people here at the hospitals…people are friendlier and our doctors are friendlier. Everyone is concerned for our patients first, and for one another. I told my daughter she should go online and apply for a job here when she started her career out of nursing school and she did.
One of the best things about working at St. Catherine's is that our managers work with us. Three years ago when I had a health issue, they were flexible with my family life and tried to work out a schedule that worked for me. That's something I appreciate and will never forget.
