Valerie MacCartney, RN, BSN
Emergency Department Assistant Nurse Manager,
I have worked at Community Hospital for 9 ½ years. I grew up in Northwest Indiana and my family has always had great experiences coming here for care. When I graduated from nursing school, I attended a job fair at the hospital. I was able to talk to a few nurse managers to see what was available and what Community had to offer. I knew when I left the job fair that Community was the place for me! I had an official interview a few days later and I was hired as a new grad in the Neuro ICU/IMCU.
Through the years, I've worked in Neuro IMCU/ICU, CVU, and then the ED as a staff nurse. I was promoted to ED Clinician and from there I was promoted to my current job, assistant manager of the Emergency department.
I also have recommended friends and family to apply to the hospital. In fact, one of my Capstone students who I trained currently works in the ED.
I think Community is a great place to work because they really take care of their patients and employees. The hospitals encourage continuing education for staff and like to see everyone get involved. It really feels like everyone is working on the same team!
