Doula, Greek for "mothering the mother" refers to the volunteer woman who provides continuous nonmedical emotional and physical support during labor. Her skills include relaxation and breathing techniques, positioning to reduce pain, massage and enhanced labor progress. With the help of a doula early mother-infant relationships and breastfeeding are enhanced.
