What Should I Bring In My Gym Bag?

Fitness Pointe prides itself on its high standards of cleanliness as well as providing ample amenities like, shower towels, personal hygiene products, sanitary wipes, etc.   In an effort to assist us in achieving these goals, here are a few items you can bring along to help keep Fitness Pointe in tip top shape:

WORKOUT SHOES

  • For several reasons, a change of shoes is the most important thing you can put into a gym bag. If you don't wear street shoes into the club to work out, the equipment, flooring, and carpeting will stay in better condition. A change of shoes also helps you keep from tracking in dirt, snow, and wetness, which can increase the risks of falls. This is especially important in cold- or wet-weather conditions.

WATER BOTTLE

  • Hydration is key to a good workout. While you can always stop by a water fountain after a run, walk,  or long ride on a stationary bicycle, it might be easier to rehydrate yourself with a bottle of water during the workout. You can make this possible by packing a water bottle in your bag. Water can also help make your workout a little easier on you, as hydration can give you the energy to work a little harder during your workout.

WORKOUT TOWEL

  • While Fitness Pointe has towels available for members, they are best suited to be used in the locker/shower/pool areas. We recommend that you bring your own towel from home to use during the workout to wipe up sweat.  A towel to wipe off sweat also is a good way to cut down on germs and bacteria that exist on the surfaces of equipment used by many people throughout the day. Plastic bags are available in all locker areas so you can take them home without affecting the rest of your gym bag contents.

Although the Fitness Pointe staff clean the equipment, it does get a lot of use, especially during this time of the year.  In an effort to maintain our high level of cleanliness, remember to wipe down equipment with a 'Gym Wipe" before and after use. This will also put you in good favor with your fellow gym members who use equipment after you.

Recipe of the Month

Chile Con Queso

Chili Con Queso

"Our healthier version of chile con queso will have ooey-gooey-cheese lovers celebrating. Now you can enjoy this Tex-Mex dip without all the fat and calories. We replaced some of the cheese with a low-fat white sauce and used sharp Cheddar plus a splash of beer to boost the flavor. Our version cuts the calories in half and reduces total fat and saturated fat by nearly 60 percent." - www.eatingwell.com

Change to Improve

Has the "newness" of the New Year started to lose its luster for you? You are not alone. Between the weather conditions, the lack of holiday activities, and maybe higher than reasonable expectations you have set regarding your health, fitness, nutrition and physical activity plans it's easy to do. This can happen to anyone, but, especially for the new members of Fitness Pointe. So, how can you turn this around in a positive direction?

Starting February 1, we will have a series of lectures called "Improve by Change". The purpose is nutritional education and improvement of health by making life long lifestyle changes. The one hour long lectures are FREE, but seating will be limited and sign up at the front desk or fitness floor desk is highly recommended.

February's line-up includes:

For those members attending the lecture and mentioning reading this article you will receive a gift! (limit one per member per month).

NewHealthyMe.org participants will be awarded points for attendance.

Looking forward to meeting you at the lectures, held in the Upper Level Classrooms.
