Check out our September exercise of the month! This is a great exercise for both the CORE of your body and your upper body.
 
This exercise can be modified by starting on your knees to decrease the intensity.
 
Remember to keep your abdominals contracted to keep good body alignment and protect the back.

Lemon Tilapia
Lemony Tilapia and Asparagus Grill
 
Dinner is so quick and easy when you grill tilapia and asparagus side by side. A combination of chili powder and lemon pepper enhances the mild flavor of the fish, and a seasoned vinegar and oil mixture adds flair to the asparagus. .

Yoga baby
In a recent randomized study of two groups at Boston University, yoga was found to be more beneficial for the calming effect on the body/mind than other exercises.
(See www.SportsGeezer.com). After the 12 week study, the group doing yoga indicated that they had less anxiety and felt calmer than the other group.
This was also confirmed by taking GABA
readings in the brain.
GABA is a neurotransmitter of the central nervous system and is related to the parasympathetic nervous response or "relaxation response".

While most Americans agree that good nutrition is important, most do not maintain consistent healthy eating habits.  Most of us think we do better than we really are.  A survey by the American Dietetic Assn. found that 90% of adults think they eat a healthy diet.  In reality, less than 5% meet the minimum US Dietary Guidelines.

How much of a difference can good nutrition make in your life?  How about increased energy, better mood, improved mental and physical performance for starters?   Add to this improved health and quality of life.

The new "Healthy Eating 101" Coach Program will be using scientifically proven guidelines to help guide you towards better nutrition choices and improve your overall health.  These guidelines are based on the DASH diet developed by the National Institutes of Health.  A Mediterranean twist to DASH has been added to the 5 step program.

Class Details:
This 6 consecutive week one hour class will help participants become aware of their current eating habits by food journaling practice; increase knowledge of healthy food choices to achieve proper body composition; and improve overall health and energy level with long term practice.
 
When: Mondays (9/13,9/20, 9/27, 10/4, 10/11, 10/18)
                or
           Wednesdays (9/15, 9/22, 9/29, 10/6, 10/13, 10/20)
Time: Mondays - 6:30-7:30pm
         Wednesdays - 11:00am - Noon
Cost: Fitness Pointe Members: $119
         Non-Fitness Pointe Members: $139

Healthy Eating 101

Fall Coach Session to Begin September 13
Hey there Fitness Pointe member, what are you doing for the next six weeks?  If you haven't given it much thought you should try one of Fitness Pointe's Coach Fitness Classes.  Coach Fitness Classes, also thought of as a small-group personal training experience are an excellent way to immerse yourself in a specialty class or routine with just a handful of participants; most classes have less than 6 participants in them! 
 
When it comes to fitness, variety is the spice of life.  When we engage in the same exercise repeatedly our muscles (and metabolism) become accustomed to that activity and that same exercise becomes less and less effective in burning calories and producing "results" (fill in the blank here; muscle growth, weight loss, etc.)  So mixing it up and trying a new exercise will help you "jump start" your exercise routine.
