Community Healthcare Physicians drum up donation for Cancer Centre

Thanks to a generous donation of five African drums by Community Healthcare System physicians, cancer patients and survivors will have a new outlet for stress reduction. Empowerment Drumming classes are being offered by the Cancer Resource Centre, 900 Ridge Road, Suite J, in Munster.

M. Nabil Shabeeb, M.D., chairman of the Cancer Resource Centre advisory board and David Bryant, M.D., Community Hospital radiation oncologist, who believe in the healing power of music and rhythmic self-expression, have contributed $1,400 toward the endeavor. The funds have been used to purchase five African drums making classroom instruction possible. Licensed clinical social worker Nancy Feldman, who has been trained in different African drumming rhythms, will lead the class.

The Cancer Resource Centre helps patients and their families affected by cancer get the support, education, and encouragement they need to cope and heal emotionally and spiritually. All programming at the Centre is free, and includes a wide-variety of support groups, mind-body classes, lectures, and resource room filled with books, videos, and Internet access.
