Vanis Salon raises $7,617 for Cancer Resource Centre

MUNSTER — Vanis Salon founder Chris Valavanis and his customers helped raise more than $7,600 in the month of March to support the Cancer Resource Centre.

Valavanis celebrated 30 years as a stylist by offering haircuts for a minimum donation of $30 at his Vanis Salon location in Schererville. Valavanis then donated the money raised from the haircuts to the Cancer Resource Centre, 900 Ridge Road, Suite J, in Munster.

Valavanis gave more than 150 haircuts and raised $7,617.

“My hope is not only to raise dollars but to raise awareness,” Valavanis said. “An organization like the Cancer Resource Centre that not only supports cancer patients but helps their family has incredible value.”

The Cancer Resource Centre promotes the well being of all people whose lives have been touched by cancer, by offering support, education and encouragement. The Centre helps those affected by cancer obtain the support and resources they need to cope with the cancer diagnosis.

“Chris is very generous and kind-hearted,” Cancer Resource Centre Director Anthony Andello said. “It’s a great opportunity for us to utilize these funds to continue to provide free programs for patients and family members who are going through a stressful time with the diagnosis of cancer and also with the financial burden.”

The Centre offers patients and their families a non-medical place where they can come to celebrate life, deal with hardships and get their questions answered. The Centre is dedicated to improving the quality of cancer care available in Northwest Indiana and the south Chicago suburbs. All services, which include classes, lectures and support groups, are offered to the public free of charge.
