Community Hospital Fitness Pointe opens Walking Challenge to Members, Hospital Staff and Residents

Community Hospital Fitness Pointe® is challenging members, hospital staff and residents to step up their fitness regimen. Located at 9950 Calumet Avenue in Munster, the medically based fitness center helps individuals achieve life-long health and fitness through innovative, quality programs, state of the art equipment and highly credentialed staff.

In conjunction with Annual Medical Fitness Week April 20 through 26, Community Hospital Fitness Pointe is inviting Northwest Indiana to a walking challenge called, “Steppin’ Out for a Lifetime.” The National Walking Challenge encourages local communities to get up and move by striving for 70,000 steps in seven days from each participant. Those who participate wear a pedometer that helps to track the number of steps achieved per day.

Registration for the “Steppin’ Out for a Lifetime” walking challenge is being accepted at Fitness Pointe on or before Monday, April 20. Residents may either use their own pedometer or stop by Fitness Pointe and purchase one for $5. Anyone who walks at least 25,000 steps during the challenge week will receive a coupon for $100 off their enrollment fee to Fitness Pointe if they join within 60 days of the end of the challenge. Also, everyone who walks at least 25,000 steps will have their name entered into a drawing for a two-month membership to Fitness Pointe. Two of the two-month memberships will be given away to participants.

Departments from each hospital — Community Hospital in Munster, St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago and St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart, and, Community Foundation of Northwest Indiana (CFNI) employees - will compete for prizes. Also, the hospital/CFNI with the highest average number of steps will receive a traveling trophy.

A separate competition will be held for existing Fitness Pointe members. For every 10,000 steps they walk, they will receive an entry into a drawing for membership-related items.
