2009 “Remarkable Image of Caring” and “Nursing Excellence” awards presented to Community Hospital staff

Menser received the “2009 Remarkable Image of Caring Award,” and Marcheschi received the “2009 Nursing Excellence Award,” at the culmination of Community Hospital’s celebration of National Nurses Week.

Sharon Menser, certified nursing assistant, has received the “2009 Remarkable Image of Caring Award,” and Pam Marcheschi, registered nurse, has received the “2009 Nursing Excellence Award” at a ceremony culminating Community Hospital’s celebration of National Nurses Week. In addition to the Extraordinary Care Awards presentation, Nurses Week featured a basket raffle that raised more than $32,000 for the Cancer Resource Centre, Munster, IN.

“We have an exceptional nursing staff here at Community Hospital,” said Don Fesko, Community Hospital CEO. “During Nurses Week, we get a chance to celebrate their compassion and dedication, and honor them. Their efforts to give back through the basket raffle is one more example of the difference these professionals make for so many people in our community.”

Certified Nursing Assistant Sharon Menser and Registered Nurse Pam Marcheschi have been honored for going above and beyond.

The Image of Caring award nomination for Menser states, “She is the patient caregiver we all want if one of our family members has to be in the hospital. She goes the extra steps to make sure her patients are comfortable and all their needs are met.”

The Nursing Excellence award nomination for Marcheschi explains, “She always comes to work smiling and prepared — her consistent willingness and positive attitude make her stand out above the rest. She is a joy to work with and an example for others.”

“I am proud of all the dedicated nurses, certified nursing assistants, patient care technicians, and nurse externs who work at Community Hospital,” said Chief Nursing Officer Ronda McKay, MSN, CNS, RN. “Sharon and Pam are two wonderful examples of an entire staff that provides compassionate patient care each and every day.”

Before the presentation of the awards, Community Hospital nursing staff members held a theme basket raffle and scrub sale that raised $32,451 for the Cancer Resource Centre.

The Cancer Resource Centre, located at 926 Ridge Road in Munster, helps those affected by cancer obtain the support and resources they need to cope with the diagnosis. The Centre offers patients and their families a non-medical place where they can come to celebrate life, deal with hardships and find answers to their questions. All services are offered to cancer patients and their families free of charge.
