Community Hospital CEO earns Top Healthcare Management Credentialing
Community Hospital Chief Executive Officer Donald P. Fesko has become a Fellow and earned board certification from the American College of Healthcare Executives, the nation’s leading professional society for healthcare leaders.
The American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) in Chicago has announced that Donald P. Fesko, OD, MBA, FACHE and chief executive officer of Community Hospital in Munster, Ind. has recently earned Fellow status and board certification from its professional society for healthcare leaders.
Fellow status represents achievement of the highest standard of professional development. In fact, only 7,500 healthcare executives across the country hold this same distinction. To obtain Fellow status, candidates must fulfill multiple requirements, including passing a comprehensive examination, meeting academic and experiential criteria, earning continuing education credits and demonstrating professional/community involvement. Fellows also are committed to ongoing professional development and undergo recertification every three years.
“Because healthcare management ultimately affects the people in our communities, it is critically important to have a standard of excellence promoted by a professional organization,” says Thomas C. Dolan, PhD, FACHE, CAE, president and chief executive officer of ACHE. “By becoming an ACHE Fellow and simultaneously earning board certification from ACHE, healthcare leaders demonstrate their commitment to providing high-quality services to their patients and the community.”
As Chief Executive Officer of Community Hospital, Dr. Fesko has overseen the day-to-day operations of the medical facility since July 2004. He provides leadership for the busiest hospital in Lake County, a member of the largest non-profit healthcare network in Northwest Indiana: Community Healthcare System. Community Hospital has been recognized in 2008 and 2009 by HealthGrades® as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals, and, as a Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence® for 2005-2009. The hospital is ranked by HealthGrades among the Top 5% in the nation for overall orthopedic services; overall pulmonary services; treatment of stroke; overall vascular surgery; overall critical care; overall GI services; GI Surgery; and GI medical treatment. Also ranking among the top 5% in the nation for Women’s Health quality outcomes, Community Hospital has recently received the 2009/2010 Women’s Health Excellence Award™ from HealthGrades. Only 169 hospitals nationwide have been recognized with this specialty distinction from HealthGrades. The award is based on a newly released study of patient outcomes for providing care to women in 16 procedures/diagnoses relating to women’s health and maternity care.
The hospital also supports the area’s largest cancer treatment and research programs, linked to the National Cancer Institute and major research cooperatives around the globe. Cardiovascular research, neurosurgery and neonatal intensive care and a 5,000-member medically-based fitness center are other examples of the hospital’s broad range of specialties.
