Community Hospital welcomes new medical director of Emergency Services

The Community Hospital in Munster, Ind., welcomes Michael Macuga, M.D., F.A.C.E.P., as the new Medical Director of the Department of Emergency Medicine. Effective July 1, Macuga oversees daily operations of the Emergency Department, and manages a new staff of physicians, nurses and specialists dedicated to working solely in emergency medicine.

“This is an exciting time to come on board at The Community Hospital,” Macuga said. “With a new staff specializing in emergency medicine, and a recent reorganization of the department, we are meeting the growing needs of this community when it comes to emergency care. I am proud to be a part of that effort,” he said.

A native of Chicago, Dr. Macuga, 37, received his bachelor’s degree at Loyola University, Chicago and completed his residency training in emergency medicine at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. Before his appointment at Community Hospital, Macuga served as associate medical director in emergency medicine as well as a staff emergency medicine physician in Illinois and Indiana medical centers.

Macuga is board certified with the American Board of Emergency Medicine and is licensed to practice in Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin. He is a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians.

Macuga lives in Munster with his wife Pamela, who is a registered nurse, and their four children Michael, Morgan, Maria and Mikaela.
