Community Hospital named one of HealthGrades America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Third Consecutive Year
Community Hospital in Munster has been named as a HealthGrades® America’s 50 Best Hospital for 2010, placing it in the top 1% of all hospitals in the nation for quality outcomes. Community Hospital is the only hospital in Indiana to achieve this distinction for the third consecutive year.
The HealthGrades America’s 50 Best Hospitals designation is the only national hospital quality rating based solely on clinical outcomes, recognizing hospitals that have demonstrated superior clinical quality over an eight-year time period. Hospitals cannot opt-in or out of this independent analysis.
“It’s one thing to say you are committed to quality care but another to consistently deliver on that promise,” said John Gorski, Chief Operating Officer for Community Healthcare System. “Community Hospital’s record of outstanding care is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of our physicians, staff and volunteers who incorporate excellence into everything they do.”
Patients admitted to an America’s 50 Best Hospital are, on average, 27 percent less likely to die and eight percent less likely to suffer from a major complication than patients admitted to non-recipient hospitals, according to HealthGrades, the nation’s leading independent healthcare ratings organization.
“Community Hospital’s designation as one of HealthGrades’ America’s 50 Best Hospitals three years in a row, demonstrates that our healthcare team is able to consistently deliver high quality care to our patients and that we have the processes in place to continue to strive to be the very best,” said Donald P. Fesko, Chief Executive Officer of Community Hospital. “People in Northwest Indiana and the south suburbs of Chicago are able to receive nationally recognized care close to home at Community Hospital.”
To determine America’s 50 Best Hospitals, HealthGrades analyzed more than 130 million Medicare hospitalization records from every non-federal hospital in the nation. Facilities were evaluated based on risk-adjusted mortality and complications rates, not only in one medical specialty, but across 26 different procedures, treatments and conditions. To make this year’s list, the winners maintained quality levels among the top five percent in the nation for a minimum of six consecutive years.
“Our goal continues to be to provide the best care possible to our patients,” Fesko said. “We are committed to providing quality care to each patient every day and we are proud to be recognized by an outside organization for our patient outcomes being consistently among the best in America three years in a row.”
