Hospital Tops for Quality 10th Consecutive Time, according to Healthgrades
Consistently Achieves Five Percent in Nation for Clinical Outcomes
Representing more than a decade of quality care, Community Hospital has been named a Healthgrades® Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence™ for a tenth consecutive year. According to an independent study of mortality and complication rates by Healthgrades®, the nation’s leading healthcare ratings company, Community Hospital is the only hospital in the State of Indiana to be recognized 10 years in a row among the top five percent of hospitals nationwide for clinical performance.
Healthgrades Hospital Quality and Clinical Excellence study, released today, objectively identifies those hospitals with the best overall clinical performance across 28 medical diagnoses and procedures that the organization rates. Community Hospital is one of 262 hospitals named this year that stand out above the rest for their overall clinical care across a broad spectrum of care. While many hospitals have specific areas of expertise and high-quality outcomes in certain areas, these hospitals exhibit comprehensive high-quality care across multiple clinical specialties. From 2009 through 2011, Healthgrades Distinguished Hospitals for Clinical Excellence as a group, had an overall 30.9 percent lower risk adjusted mortality rate as compared to other hospitals that did not achieve the Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence Award.
“Our physicians, nurses and staff work hard to bring a great healthcare experience to every patient, every visit,” said Donald P. Fesko, Chief Executive Officer, Community Hospital. “This latest Healthgrades study confirms our ongoing commitment to quality care - that we are listening and we are tuned into our patients’ changing needs.”
Besides being recognized by Healthgrades as a Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence® from 2004-2013, Community Hospital has been recognized five years in a row - 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals. In addition, Community Hospital is the only hospital in Northwest Indiana to be designated as one of Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Care™ and for Cardiac Surgery™ for 2012. The hospital also is ranked by Healthgrades among the Top 5% in the nation in 2012 for women’s health; and ranked in the Top 10% in the nation in 2012 for treatment of stroke; and GI services. Community Hospital also ranks among the Top 10% in the nation for the Outstanding Patient Experience three years in a row, 2010, 2011 and 2012.
“Today, consumers have unprecedented access to information on hospital performance as it relates to specific conditions and procedures so that they can make more informed decisions about who to see and where to go for care,” said Evan Marks, EVP Informatics and Strategy. “The Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence enables hospitals to communicate their commitment to providing outstanding patient care and to show their continued efforts to improve clinical outcomes.”
