Fitness Pointe team takes first place in 2005 North American Rowing Challenge
MUNSTER — With a whopping total of 27,159,233 meters, the Fitness Pointe Rowing Team bested 36 other teams from around the country and Canada to claim the title this spring of 2005 North American Rowing Champion.
The 275-member team comprised of Fitness Pointe members cardiac rehabilitation patients and Teen Fit members, has been working up to this lofty position in recent years. In 2000 and 2001 it placed seventh and fifth respectively, while the last three years saw the team holding on to the number two slot. This year’s event, which ran from March 1 to 31 allowed the club to finally edge into the top spot.
“We are so proud of our team,” said Nikki Sarkisian, fitness facility supervisor for Fitness Pointe. “There have been some significant personal achievements along the way.” One team member, Jen Adamo, rowed over two million meters in the one-month competition. Seven team members rowed over a million meters each.
Concept 2, a maker of oars and racing shells, sponsors the yearly event, also honoring the top 10 male and female rowers. The Fitness Pointe team dominated these awards, taking half of the men’s and half of the women’s.
