The local fight against breast cancer glows pink
MUNSTER -- If you see a soft pink glow rising up from the West this holiday season, don’t assume it’s the setting sun. The Lights of Life Trees will be lit at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at the Community Hospital Outpatient Entrance on Columbia Avenue and will shine brightly throughout the holidays, lighting hope for a breast cancer cure.
Each brilliant pink light on the Lights of Life trees shines in honor or memory of the special people who light our lives this holiday season. For every light a $5 donation has been made to support breast cancer research. Every individual honored receives a gift card notifying them a light has been lit in their honor. A special breast cancer pin may also be sent to an honoree along with a light for a $15 donation.
A special program will accompany the tree lighting, including a performance by the Munster High School Choral Group under the direction of Dr. Timothy Bartlett, followed by a solo performance by breast cancer survivor Sharon Inucci-Billo. This year’s Guest of Honor lighting the trees will be Nancy Feldman, M.S.W., L.S.W., C.S.W. Nancy is a facilitator at the Cancer Resource Centre and has been very involved with cancer patients and their loved ones, including those battling breast cancer. All attendees are invited inside for refreshments following the program.
Donations are still being accepted. Names received after Dec. 5 cannot be guaranteed a listing at the lighting ceremony. Make checks payable to: The Community Hospital Cancer Research Foundation. Mail to: The Community Hospital; Attn: Cancer Research Foundation; 901 MacArthur Blvd., Munster, IN 46321. Donations are tax-deductible.
