About the Community Hospital
The Community Hospital is a not-for-profit, non sectarian, acute care facility with 367 licensed beds and a medical staff of more than 600 physicians. The first patient was admitted to the hospital on September 11, 1973. The hospital is governed by a Board of Directors who represent the community it serves. Community Hospital in Munster is part of the Community Healthcare System that includes St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago and St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart.
Community Hospital operates among it services: Cardiac Rehabilitation; 24-hour Emergency Department; Intensive Care; Intermediate Care; Medical/Surgical floors; Pediatrics; Obstetrics and Neonatal Units; Neuroscience Critical Care Unit; Oncology Center; Orthopedics Unit; Outpatient Surgery; Pain Clinic; Rehabilitation Center; Therapy Services; Women's Diagnostic Center; Community Hospital Outpatient Centre in St. John; Community Hospital Fitness Pointe in Munster and Community Diagnostic Center in Munster.
The Auxiliary and Fund Raisers
The Auxiliary predates the hospital and was active in fund raising prior to our opening. There are currently 280 members. Funds are raised from:

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer please contact Pam Kaczmarski at 836-4065. Or you may pick up an application at the Main Lobby Information Desk located just inside the main entrance to the hospital. You can also download an application.
Be a Student Volunteer
Helping others begins at any age. Our student volunteers must be at least 15 years old. We have two programs annually. Our Fall Program runs through the school year beginning in September after school hours and our Summer Program begins in June. Our young people become involved with the adult volunteers, the staff and patients. Various assignments are available. Download a student application.
