- CANCER UPDATE 2007 SYMPOSIUM: The Tools of the 21st Century Cancer Care. This year's program highlighted the technical advances in Cancer Care. Andrej Zajac, M.D. presented on the new Varian Radiation technology recently installed as well as gave an update on Cyberknife treatment of lung cancer. Robotic surgery using the DaVinci Robot in prostate cancer was presented by M. Nabil Shabeeb, M.D. Genomic Research and its application in the clinical setting was presented by pathologists Brenda Eriksen, M.D. and Zuowen Zeng, M.D. Finally, Jung Kuo, M.D. presented an overview of using PET scan imaging in the diagnosis and staging of cancer.
- CANCER UPDATE 2006 SYMPOSIUM: Advances in Diagnosis, Prevntion and Treatment: This Year's Symposium included a number of local physicians who are participating in state of the art treatment and diagnostic tools. Dr. Mary Nicholson gave an overview of several techniques used in diagnosing breast cancer. Dr. Henry Fung gave an update on Stem Cell Transplant. Dr. Andrej Zajac summarized the role of radioimmunotherapy in the treatment of cancer. Dr. M. Nabil Shabeeb and Dr. Russ Pellar presented the latest information on using sentinel lymph node biopsy during the surgical treatment of breast and colon cancer. Finally, Dr. Peter Mavrelas discussed an endoscopic procedure used in Barrett's Esophagitis that potentially may prevent the development of desophageal cancer. Approximately 120 Healthcare Professionals attending this years symposium.
- CANCER UPDATE 2005 SYMPOSIUM: The Arrival of New Therapies.
Dr. Virginia Kaklamani, a medical oncologist at Northwestern University talked about the latest treatments and targeted therapies for breast cancer. Dr. Charles Geyer of the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Program (NSABP) spoke about Gene Expression and Gene Profiling specifically with Node Negative, ER Positive Breast Cancer as it relates to treatment options. Dr. Mark Brenner of Sinai Hospital of Baltimore gave an overview of the CyberKnife and it's application in cancer treatment. Dr. Andrej Zajac introduced plans for use of the CyberKnife within the Community Healthcare System.
