  • Bend in the Road - Andrej Zajac, M.D., Medical Director of Radiation Oncology presented an update on Cyberknife therapy treatment. Karen Jordan, M.D. talked about the prevention and treatment of skin cancer. Mary Nicholson, M.D., a Fellowship-trained, dedicated breast radiologist educated the audience on imaging in breast cancer diagnosis. The program concluded with an inspirational talk from Donna Dettman, a breast cancer survivor and folk artist/storyteller.


  • Let's Talk Colon Cancer! - During this year-long program, doctors visited Northwest Indiana communities with a presentation about how to prevent or detect colon cancer early, when it is most curable. Thousands of take-home test kits were distributed to the public, and follow-up was conducted with many of those at risk. The program culminated with an evening seminar about colon cancer, and Ted Kennedy Jr.'s appearance focusing on the power of support with a cancer diagnosis.


  • A Winning Gameplan - Experts in prostate cancer detection and treatment provided an informative seminar, and pro football Hall-of-Famer Marv Levy entertained the crowd with his winning gameplan on overcoming his bout with the disease.


  • An Evening of Hope and Laughter - An informative seminar about breast cancer was followed by the inspiring presentation of Christine Clifford, an author who was able to find the power of laughter and humor to help her through a breast cancer diagnosis.


  • Exploring Complementary Therapies for Cancer Care - Renowned researcher and Medical educator Dr. Barrie Cassileth spoke about the latest trends and studies in complementary therapies. Nutritionist Lynn Danford (Northwestern University) gave helpful hints on adjusting diets to enhance cancer care.


  • Humor Hope and Healing - Dr. Lawrence Wickerham, M.D. and Associate Chairman for the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Program presented an Update on the Hormonal Therapy of Breast Cancer as well as information on genetic profiling and its use in treating cancers. Dr. Andrej Zajac, M.D.-Medical Director of Cyberknife Center and Radiation Therapy talked about this new therapy at the Community Healthcare System and Greg Risberg, M.S.W. gave helpful and highly entertaining information about how to use humor in coping with cancer.
