RESEARCH STATISTICS
Approximately 3% of the cancer population participates in clinical research, although when surveyed, 60-70% report they would participate if given the opportunity.
Minority and underserved populations are less likely to participate in clinical research.
One of the goals of the Cancer Research Foundation is to increase enrollment in clinical trials in the hope of decreasing the incidence and mortality of cancer.
Community Hospital has enrolled over 400 individuals in clinical trials over the last few years. Enrollment has ranged from 5-11% of the diagnosed cancer cases. Efforts continue to increase this enrollment with the hope of decreasing incidence, overall survival and time to disease progression as well as quality of life.
