About the CyberKnife Center St. Catherine Hospital is the first in Indiana and the entire Chicagoland region to offer CyberKnife. Today, the CyberKnife Center at St. Catherine Hospital is considered one of the busiest centers in the country for treatments outside of the brain and has been distinguished for its work with lung cancer. The CyberKnife Center at St. Catherine Hospital is bringing new hope to patients with cancer whose tumors could not be removed surgically or otherwise treated effectively. As 26th site in the U.S., physicians here have helped to pioneer the use of this new technology to seek out and treat cancerous tumors anywhere in the body - without surgery and without pain. CyberKnife is being used to treat certain cancers of the brain, spine, pancreas, liver and lung, as well as other blood vessel malformations and benign tumors. With its unique precision capabilities, CyberKnife can target lesions unreachable by other radiosurgery systems, including GammaKnife, Modified Linear Accelerators and Shaped-Beam Systems. The CyberKnife Center in East Chicago, Indiana, is considered one of the busiest centers in the country for treatments outside the brain and is distinguished nationally for its work with lung cancer. Physicians at the CyberKnife Center have joined a multi-institutional study evaluating the short and long-term outcomes after CyberKnife stereotactic radiosurgery for early stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in patients who are medically inoperable. This evaluation will confirm the stereotactic radiosurgical treatment parameters for NSCLC by assessing its impact on clinical response, local control, and overall survival. The CyberKnife Center is a joint effort between area physicians and the Northwest Indiana hospitals of the Community Healthcare System, Community Hospital in Munster, St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago and St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart. With availability of the CyberKnife at St. Catherine Hospital and the new Trilogy® system based at Community Hospital, the Community Healthcare System offers the most comprehensive and advanced radiation therapy treatment options available. The Trilogy system offers patients the benefits of Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) and Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) for conventional external beam radiation.
