Hospitals of Community Healthcare System celebrate National Cancer Survivors Day
National Cancer Survivors Day is held annually in hundreds of communities across our country on the first Sunday in June to demonstrate that life after a cancer diagnosis can be a reality. Community Hospital in Munster, St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago, and St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart each will host a celebration Sun. June 6 to honor cancer survivors from our Northwest Indiana communities.
Sponsored by the Cancer Resource Centre, a support program of the Community Cancer Research Foundation, “Hawaiian Luau” will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. at The Edward P. Robinson Community Veteran’s Memorial Park in Munster, 9710 Calumet Ave. Experience musical entertainment by Jaclyn Gessert and the Just for Fun Ukelele Strummers. There also will be Healing Touch, Reiki, Chair Massage and Yoga demonstrations. Hawaiian attire is optional for this casual, relaxing luau-themed event.
A“Celebration of Life” is scheduled at St. Catherine Hospital. The beach-themed event takes place from 3 to 5 p.m. in the professional office building conference room of the hospital, 4321 Fir St. in East Chicago. Beachwear is optional. An interactive demonstration of laughter yoga will be conducted by certified instructor Tanaz Bamboat. Musical entertainment, refreshments and giveaways also highlight the afternoon.
St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart will host “Cancer Survivors Day Celebration” from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Waterfall Café Courtyard, 1500 S. Lake Park Ave. (accessible through the West entrance). Included in the afternoon’s activities are an old-fashioned ice cream social, hors d’oeuvres, music, giveaways, and door prizes.
