CyberKnife Center

CyberKnife Center

St. Catherine Hospital was the first in Indiana and the entire Chicagoland region to offer CyberKnife, bringing new hope to patients with cancer whose tumors could not be removed surgically or otherwise treated effectively.

As the 26th site in the U.S., the CyberKnife® Center at St. Catherine Hospital has helped to pioneer the use of this new technology to seek out and treat cancerous tumors anywhere in the body - without surgery and without pain. Our physicians have helped to expand the use of CyberKnife, which is now used to treat certain cancers of the brain, spine, pancreas, prostate, liver and lung, as well as other blood vessel malformations and benign tumors. With its unique precision capabilities, CyberKnife can target lesions unreachable by other radiosurgery systems, including GammaKnife, Modified Linear Accelerators and Shaped-Beam Systems.

Physicians at the CyberKnife Center are distinguished for their pioneering work with lung cancer, participating in a multi-institutional study evaluating the short and long-term outcomes for early stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in patients who are medically inoperable. This evaluation will confirm the stereotactic radiosurgical treatment parameters for NSCLC by assessing its impact on clinical response, local control, and overall survival.

With availability of the CyberKnife at St. Catherine Hospital and the new Trilogy® system based at Community Hospital, the Community Healthcare System offers the most comprehensive and advanced radiation therapy treatment options available. The Trilogy system offers patients the benefits of Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) and Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) for conventional external beam radiation.
