Partnership serves Uninsured East Chicago Residents
HealthLinc, a Federally-Qualified Health Center (FQHC), has received funding to open a clinic on Saturday, June 1 at 100 W. Chicago Ave. In partnership with St. Catherine Hospital, they will provide primary healthcare to the uninsured and underinsured residents of East Chicago. FQHCs are community-based organizations that provide comprehensive primary care and preventive care, including health, dental and mental health/substance abuse services to persons of all ages, regardless of their ability to pay or health insurance status.
“We are cognizant of the healthcare needs of East Chicago community and are pleased to announce that we will be able to continue to provide quality healthcare to those in need,” said Beth Wrobel, CEO of HealthLinc. “Our target population is people living below 200 percent of Federal Poverty Level.”
“We are proud to partner with HealthLinc that has a proven track record of high quality affordable primary medical, dental and behavioral health services,” said Jo Ann Birdzell, CEO of St. Catherine Hospital.
The new clinic will have a wide range of services available to patients with physician specialties including OB/GYN and family practice with a focus on primary care and preventative care.
“HealthLinc is looking forward to expanding to East Chicago” said Wrobel. “Our model in four other communities has allowed the underserved residents in Northern Indiana to receive high quality primary care in a setting that has proven positive health outcomes.”
According to Wrobel, the new clinic will be based on the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Patient-Centered Medical Home Model. This national model organizes care around patients — to ensure that they get the care they need, when they need it and in the way that offers the most benefits.
“HealthLinc services are truly patient-centered through a team of care providers in each clinic,” Wrobel said. “With physicians, nurses, behavioral health consultants, dentists and other medical-related staff, HealthLinc is able to care for the whole patient and family,” she said.
Families without insurance are encouraged to apply for Hoosier Healthwise at a conveniently located enrollment center. For location information, patients can visit http://www.in.gov/FSSA/3030.htm or call 800-403-0864.
In the near future, the HealthLinc East Chicago clinic will hold various events at the new location, including health fairs, and job fairs and an open house for residents to find out about healthcare services they will be providing.
