St. Catherine Hospital History

St. Catherine Hospital 80th Anniversary

Community Healthcare System

Donald Powers

When St. Catherine Hospital became a part of the Community Healthcare System, we soon learned that we had gained more than a partner in healthcare. We found ourselves embraced by a family, like all who have passed through these doors throughout its 80-year history. The bonds between the staff, patients and the community are unbreakable, and have fostered a safe and loving environment that is second to none. There's a sense of history you can feel at St. Catherine Hospital, a legacy of great healthcare, of healing and faith. It is a history not created by bricks and mortar, but one written by a family committed to the highest calling. This devotion has sustained St. Catherine Hospital and crafted some of its greatest achievements. We are blessed to be a member of such a great family. May these bonds of family continue to strengthen and challenge all of us to realize the dreams of another generation who will look to us for help and healing.

John Gorski

Our history with St. Catherine Hospital began on October 17, 2001. It marked an important date, the coming together of three hospitals in Northwest Indiana. These hospitals, which included Community Hospital in Munster and St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart, came together not to compete, but to work together to make healthcare better for everyone in Northwest Indiana. We wasted no time. On the first day of our affiliation, construction crews moved into St. Catherine Hospital to add new services and invest in the future. We have proudly continued a rich tradition of “firsts” with the opening of the CyberKnife Center at St. Catherine Hospital. The CyberKnife Center was the 26th site in the country to offer a new cancer-fighting technology. For our patients and for St. Catherine, these investments represent new options and new hope. For those who set the cornerstone of St. Catherine Hospital, it continues a promise made 80 years ago.
