Genetic Counseling

The hospitals of the Community Healthcare System offer patients access to genetic studies and genetic counseling. BRACAnalysis® (high risk genetics counseling) is used to help determine genetic risk and individually tailored treatment options. Benefits of hereditary cancer testing include obtaining a personalized risk assessment, appropriate medical management to help reduce cancer risk and important information for other family members.

Patients that may benefit from genetic testing include:

  • Patients diagnosed with breast cancer at age 50 or younger
  • Men diagnosed with breast cancer
  • Patients having any male relatives diagnosed with breast cancer
  • Patients having 2 or more close family members who have had breast and/or ovarian cancer
  • Patients having 2 or more family members with breast cancer diagnosed at age 50 or younger
