Radiation Oncology

Community Healthcare System offers one of the broadest ranges of radiation oncology treatment options- for breast and other types of cancers - in the Chicago area. Our hospitals were among the first in the Chicago region to offer CyberKnife® and a type of breast brachytherapy, called MammoSite, which dramatically reduces the time spent in radiation therapy after a lumpectomy. CyberKnife® is not used to treat breast cancer, but may be an option for other types of cancer. The following radiation oncology treatments for breast cancer are available through the hospitals of the Community Healthcare System:

External Beam Therapy

  • Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)
  • Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT)

Brachytherapy (MammoSite for Breast Cancer)
