The Joint Academy of
St. Mary Medical Center
Knee and hip surgery can make a real difference in your overall outlook, comfort and well-being, leading to a better quality of living. Where you choose to have this important surgery can also make a difference.
From hip surgery to knee replacement, St. Mary Medical Center has received some of the highest marks in the country for joint care provided to our patients. Named among America's Top 100 Orthopedic Surgery, St. Mary Medical Center's Joint Academy is also a recipient of the Joint Commission's top rating - the Gold Seal of Approval - for both total knee and hip replacement surgeries. And the Joint Academy is also the first program in Northern Indiana to be designated a Blue Distinction Center by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Companies. That's a difference that demonstrates better outcomes and fewer complications for patients undergoing joint surgery at St. Mary Medical Center.
Another important aspect of our care that sets us apart begins with the expertise of our board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeons, anesthesiologists, specially-trained orthopedic nurses, patient care aides, therapists, clinical pharmacists, social workers and case managers. These medical professionals work together as a team to help patients step back into life as quickly as possible.
St. Mary Medical Center’s Joint Academy includes patient education prior to surgery, inpatient group therapy, followed by readiness for recovery at home.
Patients and families benefit from a highly-supportive environment where they can meet others facing similar challenges. Our dedicated Orthopedics unit features all-private rooms and is designed around the patient's comfort.
Therapy and activities rooms are located on the unit so members of our healthcare team and family can support patients with every step toward recovery. Our Joint Care Coordinator serves as a key contact, helping to meet the unique needs of patients. We involve family members as "coaches" keeping them informed so they can better guide and motivate their loved one as they prepare for continuing recovery at home.
