HOBART -- Thanks to the generous efforts of its medical staff, St. Mary Medical Center presented a $3,500 check to the Hobart Food Pantry last week. The funds raised will help sustain food pantry supplies through the busy holiday season and into the New Year.

“This donation comes at a time of great demand for us,” said Theresia Larimore, director of the Hobart Food Pantry. “The hospital has been a generous supporter all year long, but it was a great delight to receive such a sizeable monetary donation. This amount was unexpected, but so very much appreciated.” Larimore stated that the Hobart Food Pantry has seen a 60 percent increase of those using their services over last year.

“We’re proud to be able to support important community partners such as the Hobart Food Pantry,” said Janice Ryba, administrator at St. Mary Medical Center. “They’re a valuable resource for so many individuals and families in need, particularly during these challenging economic times.”

Nazzal Obaid, MD, a cardiologist at St. Mary Medical Center who organized the collection from medical staff said he noticed the increased need during a hospital food drive last summer. “As physicians, we can’t help but notice the hardships that many of our patients are experiencing,” he said. “We are extremely grateful to all of the medical staff at St. Mary Medical Center for their generosity in helping to fulfill those needs.”
