New Fellowship-Trained Breast Radiologist Joins St. Mary’s Women’s Diagnostic Center

Rajshri Shah, MD, fellowship-trained, dedicated breast radiologist, joins the Women’s Diagnostic Center at St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart.

HOBART — Rajshri Shah, MD, fellowship-trained breast radiologist, has joined Women’s Diagnostic Center at St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart. Shah was most recently a clinical instructor/fellow in the department of radiology at the University of Chicago.

Shah joins the center as a full-time breast care specialist devoted to supporting the center’s award-winning, same-day digital mammography program. She will also be instrumental in providing a full array of services including breast MRIs, ultrasound, minimally-invasive breast biopsies as well as bone density and other screenings. Shah joins the all-woman breast health team already in place which includes a dedicated nurse practitioner and mammography supervisor.

Shah cites the commitment to excellence in breast care and the development of a top-notch diagnostic center as two reasons for choosing to join the Women’s Diagnostic Center in Hobart.

“We have the most advanced equipment available here in the form of digital mammography, breast MRIs, and ultrasound,” adds Shah. “But the commitment to excellence is evident in the continuity-of-care with patients. We stay with our patients from screening and diagnosis all the way through treatment. They see a familiar face when coming here for their breast health needs.”

Shah initially earned her medical degree and became board certified in Internal Medicine at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. Afterwards, she went on to complete an additional residency in Radiology, at the University of Chicago, specializing in Breast and Musculoskeletal Imaging. During her fellowship training, Dr. Shah earned numerous awards including an award for excellence in Gastroradiology and for outstanding performance in Neuroradiology

“Moving from internal medicine to breast imaging was an ideal transition for me,” says Shah. “As a breast radiologist, I can still build relationships with my patients and discuss health issues and preventative care. But I will also stay involved in multi-disciplinary treatment planning with medical colleagues including surgeons, oncologists and family physicians.”

“We’re pleased to have Dr. Shah join the talented team of professionals at our Women’s Diagnostic Center,” says Janice Ryba, administrator and CEO of St. Mary Medical Center. “She not only brings her expertise and significant skills to the program, but her commitment to compassionate and personalized care for the individual fits right in with our values and mission.”

Same-day appointments for digital mammography screenings, as well as same-day results, are available at the Women’s Diagnostic Center at St. Mary Medical Center, part of the Community Healthcare System. To make an appointment, call 219-947-6436.
