St. Mary Medical Center Women’s Diagnostic Center Earns Breast Center of Excellence
HOBART, IN — Women’s Diagnostic Center of St. Mary Medical Center, has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). It is one of only two hospitals in Northwest Indiana to achieve this accreditation.
The Women’s Diagnostic Center received this prestigious award for their outstanding personnel and use of advanced technology for:
• stereotactic breast biopsy,
• breast ultrasound, and
• ultrasound-guided breast biopsy.
“National accreditation from the ACR confirms that St. Mary Medical Center’s Women’s Diagnostic Center has met the most stringent standards of quality for safe, accurate and effective breast care,” said Janice Ryba, CEO, St. Mary Medical Center. “Combined with our outstanding reputation for compassionate, patient-focused care, the center continues to be a leader in breast health in Northwest Indiana.”
Peer-review evaluations, conducted in each breast imaging modality by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field, have determined that the Women’s Diagnostic Center at St. Mary Medical Center has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs.
“Achieving this accreditation is a culmination of extensive collaboration and attention to patient needs,” said Charisa Spoo, DO, dedicated breast radiologist at the Women’s Diagnostic Center. “I am very proud to be part of a talented team that is so dedicated to excellence in breast health.”
The Women’s Diagnostic Center at St. Mary Medical Center offers same-day results of high-quality screening and diagnostic services to help detect breast cancer at its earliest stages. The center offers a team of highly trained, licensed technologist, certified breast health navigators, and dedicated breast radiologists to perform the highest standards of diagnostic breast care and treatment.
The ACR is a national professional organization serving more than 34,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
