St. Mary Medical Center is opening the new, $17 million Valparaiso Health Center on Monday, February 4, 2013. The 55,000 square-foot outpatient facility is packed with quality services and exceptional choices in healthcare for residents of Porter and LaPorte counties.

An Open House will be held for the public to preview the new health center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sat., Jan. 26, at 3800 St. Mary Drive, near the corner of SR 49 and Burlington Beach Road. Chicago Bears defensive lineman Israel Idonije will be on hand between 12 and 2 p.m., to sign autographs and meet fans. Chicago radio legend Dick Biondi and 94.7/WLS-FM will simulcast from the event. Festivities feature giveaways and free prizes, including a chance to win a three-day Funjet Vacation to Riviera Maya Mexico.

During the Open House, visitors can tour the facility, meet staff and physicians, and learn about the comprehensive services available at the center. Specialists in family medicine, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, cardiology, neurology, weight-loss and bariatric medicine, as well as integrative medicine, will be on hand. A full, clinical laboratory, advanced diagnostic imaging, including the latest MRI, CT, digital x-ray, and ultrasound, as well as outpatient rehabilitation and an Immediate Care Center round out the full scope of medical services available at the Valparaiso facility.

Women will also have the advantage of new technology - a bone densitometry system. The equipment provides full-body composition scans, allowing for a more complete view of a patient’s body mass as well as bone density.

The Immediate Care Center is equipped with eight exam rooms and will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Immediate Care will be staffed by Community Care Network physicians and staff — medical professional who provide high-quality healthcare services of St. Mary Medical Center and Community Healthcare System throughout Northwest Indiana.

“The Valparaiso Health Center represents Community Healthcare System’s tradition of contributing to a higher quality of life and health to the residents of our communities,” said John Gorski, COO of Community Healthcare System. “As a Northwest Indiana-based not-for-profit healthcare system, we have a commitment to reinvesting into the technologies and services that contribute to the strength and vitality of our neighborhoods and the people we serve.”

In addition to the array of medical services available at the Valparaiso Health Center, the building will also offer two community rooms for educational presentations and support group meetings, as well as useful resource center, a Garden Café, and a healing garden that will open in the spring.

Besides the Open House planned for Saturday, a ribbon ceremony will be held Thursday, January 24, for city officials and area business and civic representatives. The event will be catered by Valparaiso’s own Strongbow Inn, with flowers provided by the Flower Cart in Valparaiso.
