The hospitals of Community Healthcare System offer many free and low-cost educational programs, screenings and support to help people live healthier, manage a chronic disease or recover from a serious illness.
Search here for class offerings throughout our healthcare system, which includes Community Hospital in Munster, St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago and St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart. This service, which includes assistance in Spanish, is available Monday-Friday, 8:30 am – 5 pm, and accepts registration for many of our classes.

11/18/2015 - World COPD Awareness Day
To observe World COPD Awareness Day, St. Mary Medical Center is hosting an educational health fair and seminar for the community. Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (COPD) is a medical condition that affects milliions of people worldwide each year. COPD includes diseases such as emphysema, chronic bronchitis and asthma. Pulmonologist Gaurav Kumar, MD, from 1:00-1:30 pm will discuss symptoms, causes, diagnosis and treatment options for COPD. Attend the seminar and participate in free screenings.
Free screenings will be available including a COPD screening, spirometry testing and demonstrations on exercise and breathing techniques. Other support and resource personnel will be on hand to provide information about respiratory medications, oxygen therapy and smoking cessation. Light refreshments will be available.
