Northwest Indiana residents will soon have a dedicated neuroscience and sports medicine outpatient center to serve as a single location for patients requiring evaluation and treatment of neurological conditions including concussion, Parkinson’s disease, and balance disorders, as well as spine, orthopedic and musculoskeletal issues.

Construction is underway for Community Hospital’s 27,000-square-foot Community Neuroscience & Sports Medicine Center on U.S. 30 and St. John Road in Schererville. The two-story building will house the hospital’s Dizziness and Balance Therapy Center, Concussion and Sports Medicine Clinics as well as physician offices. The combination of services and related physician offices will be located on the first floor, with the second floor shelled in for future expansion. The center is expected to open early 2018.

“We’re excited to combine these outstanding programs and services together into one state-of-the-art facility to benefit our patients,” said Community Hospital CEO, Lou Molina. “We have some of the most talented neuroscience and sports medicine physician specialists and therapists on staff. To bring them all together under one roof allows close coordination – from evaluation to treatment – so that patients can benefit from a team approach to care.”

The center will feature a Neuroscience and Balance Suite where patients can receive comprehensive evaluations and individualized treatments aimed to decrease dizziness and improve balance for improved functional independence. A bright, open space is also allocated for physical, occupational therapies and rehabilitation services in the Neuroscience and Balance Suite.

Physician offices on site will include fellowship-trained primary and orthopedic sports medicine specialists, as well as neurologists, orthopedic surgeons, and a physiatrist.

“This new center offers the most advanced techniques and technologies – such as targeted treatments using x-ray and ultrasound – to get our patients moving again,” said John Doherty, vice president, Therapy Services, Sports Medicine, & Occupational Health. “We made every effort to ensure the space was patient-friendly and responsive to their variety of needs from movement disorders to athletic rehabilitation. Our new space will help us deliver outstanding, effective care in a welcoming, comfortable environment.”
The Community Hospital Neuroscience and Sports Medicine Center is located at 1545 W. U.S. Highway 30 in Schererville, Indiana. For more information, or to find a sports medicine specialist on staff, call our physician referral line at 219-836-3477 or visit comhs.org.
