Find a garden full of ideas and inspiration at this special program for the public. Unique Window Box creation by local gardeners and artists will be on display at the June Hawk Franklin Garden of Meditation and Healing. The event benefits  the Cancer Resource Centre's efforts to help patients and their loved ones cope with a diagnosis of cancer.

Window of Hope

* Therapeutic Benefits of Container Gardening, 10:30 - 11 am
Join landscape architects Rob & Heidi Szrom from Lakeshore Landscaping & Lakeshore Seasonal Services as they discuss the wide variety of artful pots and beautiful plants available today, and how to design a unique arrangement that suits your style and site.

* Healing Benefits of Hypnosis & Meditation: 11:15 - 11: 45 am
Award winning Hypnotherapist, Author and Healer, Randi Light, MS, CH, will share the benefits of hypnosis, how it can reduce stress, expedite healing and help with insomnia, pain relief, anxiety and depression. As a Mental Trainer, Randi teaches you how to use your mind to relax, heal, reduce fear and change your focus. 

* To Bee...or not to Bee, 12 - 12:30 pm
Master Gardener Vicki Jostes will delve into the amazing lives of honeybees and see just what these super insects can do, from the regal queen, right down to the aptly named worker bees.  In words and pictures, she will decode the honeybees’ secrets, then tie the facets of their story into a neat and wondrous bundle that ultimately relates to each of us.

* Demonstrations by Cancer Resource Centre staff: Chi Gong, 12: 45 - 1:15 pm
Senior Yoga Instructor Andy Wichlinski will demonstrate this gentle form of exercise that improves health and overall wellbeing. Crystal Bowl Sound Healing used to wash away stress and still the mind will be demonstrated throughout the event by Instructor Pam Kozy, RMT, IARP

Advanced tickets may be purchased for $10 at the Cancer Resource Centre in Munster, the gift shops of Community Hospital in Munster, St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago and St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart.

Calling all…Gardeners and Artists: We invite to take our Window Box Challenge

We invite you to transform an empty wooden window box into a work of art to be displayed in the healing garden of the Cancer Resource Centre in Munster. These unique window box creations will be a beautiful source of inspiration at the Cancer Resource Centre’s Inspiration from the Garden program on July 22, 2107.

window boxThe Cancer Resources Centre provides a window of hope for cancer patients and their families, offering free support services. Your window box creation will be sold and/or raffled off to attendees of the Inspirations from the Garden program benefiting the work of the Cancer Resource Centre.

How to Participate in the Window Box Challenge

  1. To reserve your window box, contact the Cancer Resource Centre at 219-836-3349. All window boxes must be picked up from the Cancer Resource Centre, 926 Ridge Road, Munster. Window boxes are available at no charge on a first-come basis.
  2. Decorate the window box in any way you desire – go ahead, think outside the box! Each box must also be “planted.”
  3. Email the following information on your box to: aandello@comhs.org
    • Name of Window Box
    • Name of Window Box Artist
    • Description of Box, including names of “plants” used
  4. All boxes must be delivered back to the Cancer Resource Centre on Thursday or Friday July 20 & 21, between the hours of 8:30 am and 5 pm.
  5. Each Window Box artist receives a free ticket to attend the Inspiration from the Garden Event. Additional tickets can be purchased on the date of the event or in advance from the Cancer Resource Centre.
  6. Prizes will be awarded for the Window Box Challenge and the contributors will be recognized on our website.

Special Thanks to Ann Davis and the carpentry staff of Theatre at the Center for the design and building of these boxes, along with the Friends of the Cancer Resource Centre.
