Ear, Nose, & Throat/Otolaryngology

Personalized Care for Your Needs

We offer innovative services to treat disorders of the ear, nose, throat, and related structures of the head and neck.

You can count on our otolaryngology services for the full spectrum of diagnostic and treatment options for hearing loss, inner ear balance disorders and abnormalities of the ear. This highly skilled team of ear surgeons, certified audiologists, nurses and speech-language pathologists cares for patients of all ages, including children with specialized services for pediatric ENT.

We have an extensive variety of treatment options for sinus conditions and minimally invasive procedures like balloon sinuplasty. We operate an Allergy Testing & Treatment Center that tests for the most common allergens in Northwest Indiana and Illinois. Our ear, nose and throat specialists treat diseases and conditions of the inner ear and skull base related to the nervous system, including tumors. We also offer surgically placed, bone-anchored BAHA hearing devices, an advanced technology designed to help improve hearing for patients.

Range of Treatments and Services

Here are just a few of the many ear, nose and throat services we offer at our hospitals:

Sinus Treatment

Conventional Sinus Surgery

Functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) is a surgical approach to sinusitis relief. The procedure works by removing bone and tissue to enlarge the sinus opening with the help of specialized instruments, including a nasal endoscope.

Sinus Surgery Navigation System

Surgical navigation software offers ear, nose and throat doctors computer-assisted guidance during sinus surgery. The software system, which tracks and displays the location of surgical instruments with imaging technology, like a CT image, helps physicians more precisely identify areas in the nasal cavity that is causing concern, pain or pressure. Use of this technology in endoscopic sinus surgery and intranasal procedures reduces tissue trauma, swelling and bleeding and patients experience a faster, easier recovery.

Minimally Invasive Sinus Procedures

The balloon sinuplasty procedure is an endoscopic sinus surgery that uses minimally invasive sinus catheters to position a balloon into the blocked sinus passageway. Learn more about this treatment.

Hearing Loss Treatment

Bone Anchoring Hearing Aid (BAHA)

St. Catherine Hospital offers the BAHA, which is a type of hearing aid based on bone conduction. It is primarily suited for people who have conductive hearing losses, unilateral hearing loss, single-sided deafness and people with mixed hearing losses who cannot otherwise wear 'in the ear' or 'behind the ear' hearing aids. Unlike other implantable hearing solutions, the ability to test the BAHA System by using the BAHA Softband allows you to experience the benefits of the technology first-hand before making the decision to move forward.
