Treatment Beyond Your Allergy Symptoms
One in three Americans suffer from some form of allergy.
Allergies to substances in the environment or to other triggers can have potentially adverse consequences for thousands of children, adults and seniors living in Northwest Indiana.
We understand how this condition can affect the everyday lives of so many people. That's why we've made it our mission to help people manage and treat their allergic condition.
The new Allergy Testing & Treatment Center at St. Catherine Hospital is equipped with two, spacious exam stations for children, teens and adults. There, you will be evaluated to learn if you may be a candidate for testing to identify the allergen(s) that are causing your discomfort.
Our goal is to create an allergy treatment plan that allows you to build up immunity to the allergens, and get you off allergy medications completely.
Kedar Kakodkar, MD, an adult and pediatric ear, nose and throat doctor, directs the center, which opened in 2016.
A fellowship-trained ENT in pediatrics, Dr. Kakodkar has expertise in environmental allergies, allergy shots, sinusitis, anaphylaxis, eczema, hives, angioedema, asthma and immunodeficiency.
Common symptoms of allergies include itchy, watery eyes and sneezing. Allergies can cause coughing, nasal drainage, hives or rashes. In a severe allergic reaction, you may feel dizzy or faint. You may experience chest pain, a fast-beating heart and feel your lips or tongue swell.
Evaluation & TherapyIf you suspect you suffer from allergies or want to wean yourself from over-the-counter or prescribed allergy medicine, you can book an appointment for an evaluation. Allergy testing typically takes up to 30 minutes, and offers same-day results. Treatment depends on the type and severity of your allergy. We may give you a prescription for medicine, and counseling on life-style adjustments. Allergy shots may be part of the regime to build an immunity to the allergen.
To Breathe EasyThe Allergy Testing & Treatment Center sees patients ages 6 and up.
