Award-Winning Care and Attention
It’s no wonder why St. Mary Medical Center has been recognized as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Obstetrics, and why our birthing center has been recognized by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association for excellence in delivering quality maternity care.
Our birthing center has one of Northwest Indiana’s largest staff of registered nurses who specialize in inpatient obstetrics. This level of training means our healthcare professionals have a deeper understanding of the issues associated with labor and delivery, and the critical-thinking skills necessary to provide the highest quality care.
Additionally, our facility’s Level II Nursery is equipped to care for high-risk births and attend to the special needs of both mother and baby. We also offer additional services such as certified lactation consultants and a midwife-friendly environment, so you don’t have to go far to get what you need.
Not only is excellent care a priority, but we offer mothers comfortable suites that feature modern amenities. Each room has a state-of-the-art Giraffe® OmniBed system with radiant warmers and incubators to allow baby to be more closely monitored. Private bathrooms with showers are available en suite, and each mother has the option of using a special birthing tub during her visit. There is also an updated family lounge for the comfort of visiting family members.
Baby-Friendly Learning Collaborative
St. Mary Medical Center is one of four Indiana hospitals to be chosen to participate in the state’s maternity care quality improvement initiative, the Baby-Friendly Learning Collaborative. As part of the collaborative, St. Mary Medical Center serves a role model for best practices in maternity care, and to promote optimal infant feeding, including breastfeeding.
Maternal and child health and infant mortality are among the state’s highest priority health initiatives, and St. Mary Medical Center is proud to be able to lead the way in creating effective solutions to help women help their babies have a healthy, successful first year of life.
