Our nutrition services team coordinates with physicians, registered nurses, cardiac rehabilitation specialists, the Centers for Diabetes and physical therapists to offer outpatient counseling, classes and exercise options for long-term success and dietary adjustments for a healthy life.
The Community Healthcare System offers one of the most comprehensive programs in Northwest Indiana and the Chicago market for medical, surgical and lifestyle weight solutions such as Healthy For Life, Integrative Medicine and exercise sessions at Fitness Pointe.
Our programs are specially tailored to help you stay healthy, lose weight and keep it off by offering access to weight loss, bariatric surgery, lifetime wellness and fitness education.
In addition to our nutritional counseling, we provide psychosocial and psychiatric counseling for long-term success.
Education & Screenings
The hospitals of Community Healthcare System offer several free and low-cost educational programs, screenings and support to help people eat better, live healthier, manage a chronic disease or recoup from a serious illness.
Nutritional Counseling: To help achieve goals for weight loss, a normal blood sugar level and a healthier lifestyle, Community Healthcare system offers nutritional counseling by a registered dietitian on an individual or group basis at all of our hospitals.
A physician’s referral is required. Cost varies, depending on insurance.

Diabetes Self-Management Education: Our outpatient diabetes education program, recognized by the American Diabetes Association for Quality Self-Management Education, offers training on insulin administration, self-blood glucose monitoring, diet and meal planning, exercise, stress and nutritional counseling.
A registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator can help you develop a personalized meal plan matched to their lifestyle and medication plan. An exercise consultation may also be included.

Weight-Loss Surgery: Is it Right for Me? General and bariatric surgeons with the Community Healthcare System discuss new options for treatment of obesity.
Weight No More Support Group: Support and information is shared among those who have had weight-loss surgery or are thinking about it. Topics include meal planning, artificial sweetener use, dining out and travel tips.
