Board-certified plastic surgeon David Robinson, MD, and Mary Nicholson, MD, medical director of Community Hospital’s Women’s Diagnostic Center, gather for a check presentation at Robinson’s Munster office. The $2,500 donation will help pay for screenings for local women who do not have insurance and cannot afford diagnostic breast care.

MUNSTER | A tradition of helping breast cancer patients in Northwest Indiana carries on.

David Robinson, MD, and his practice, Indiana Plastic Surgery, again donated $2,500 to Community Healthcare Center’s Women’s Diagnostic Center in support of the Breast Cancer Awareness Fund. The contribution will help local women who do not have insurance and cannot afford diagnostic breast care.

Robinson and his staff raised the funds during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

“I am thankful to everyone who contributed to the success of this important fundraiser,” Robinson said. “Their kindness makes a significant difference in the lives of women in need.”

The fundraiser holds a personal meaning for Robinson, whose mother, Virginia Robinson, died in 2015 of other causes after surviving a 28-year battle with breast cancer. She was involved with programs and services at Community Hospital and was the wife of Edward P. Robinson, hospital administrator from 1967 to 2003. She also served as guest of honor at the inaugural Lights of Life tree-lighting ceremony. Proceeds from that program support the nonprofit Community Cancer Research Foundation, which brings advances in cancer research to local residents.

Mary Nicholson, MD, medical director of the Women’s Diagnostic Center and regional director of Breast Imaging Services for Community Healthcare System, is grateful for the continued support from Robinson and his staff.

“With this donation, we can help more women receive the best possible care,” Nicholson said. “I value Dr. Robinson’s commitment and partnership in our shared goal of improving the lives and well-being of women who turn to us during a time of need.”

The Women’s Diagnostic Centers of Community Healthcare System offer 3D mammography with same-day appointments and same-day results in most cases. The centers have earned national accreditations for breast imaging, mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound guided breast biopsy.
